The Mohawk Trail Regional School System “Explorers Program” will offer free educational and enrichment programming this summer for grades K–12.
Programs will run the weeks of:
- July 12–16
- July 19–23
- July 26–30
- August 2–6
- August 9–13
Program times will be from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (tentative) with an extended day option until 5:30 p.m. (limited spots). Transportation from Colrain Central, Hawlemont Regional, and Ashfield House is available (pre-sign ups will be required).
Registration is now open using the links below! Stay tuned to this page and our Facebook page for program updates. Space in our programs will be limited and may require a lottery process if demand exceeds capacity. Please note that students will need to enroll for a full day and full week (no half-days/partial weeks available).
We will offer our youngest Explorers (K–2), located at the Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School, the opportunity to participate in five weeks of programming throughout July and August. Students will strengthen their connections to the outdoors and with their peers through daily programming and exploration, as well as in-house “field trips,” with visits from our local community partners and educators. Twice a week, students will venture off campus for field trips to the Ashfield Lake for a morning swim and exploration of the park. In addition, our students will have the opportunity to go hiking, explore their local watershed, and receive reading support, while having fun, making friends, and strengthening their connections to the world around them. This program will also integrate with our Summer School Program to provide our youngest students with additional opportunities for socialization with their peers this summer.
Our Grades 3–6 Explorers Program will be at the Mohawk Trail Regional School campus. Students will take advantage of our beautiful school campus and the trails throughout our property. Hiking and exploring the local community, students will learn about local animals by using trail cameras and looking for signs of animals. They will tour the school and campus and participate in in-house field trips with visits from local community educators and partners such as Bob Masla, Trevor the Games Man, Aimee Gelinas, Adventure East, and 4-H. Twice per week, our 3–6 Explorers will travel off-site for field trips to Ashfield Lake for a morning swim and have the opportunity to kayak/canoe and explore the park.
Our middle school Explorers will begin to blaze their trail to new experiences through participation on our Community STEM Team. This small team of students will have the opportunity to engage with hands-on, collaborative work to design and create real life solutions to a current school need. In addition, interested students can become counselors in training for our summer program. In addition to the STEM programming, our Explorers will have the opportunity to hone their artistic skills with local artist Bob Masla, who will provide a three-day painting workshop for both middle and high school students to practice painting the beautiful scenery behind Mohawk Trail Regional School.
Our current high school Trailblazers will continue their work blazing a trail to life beyond the walls of MTRS through participation in summer courses at local colleges and universities or through employment opportunities as program assistants/counselors for our summer programs and surrounding community partners.
Join us for a summer of fun and learning adventures as our Explorers blaze their educational trails to success through our educational and enrichment programming. To learn more about how your child can explore with us, please contact Summer Program Coordinator Alia Woofenden.
